teaching ethos

I draw on my 22 years of studying the cello with some of Europe and Britain’s top performers to enable my students to overcome technical obstacles to mastering their instrument, unlock creativity, and ignite musical passion.

My approach is grounded in the traditional methods that I learned at Europe’s leading musical academies (such as sight reading, correct body posture and bowing technique). I also tailor my approach to each child. I seek out ways to instil good practice habits that suit each student whilst making the study of the cello into a musical journey that fosters self-confidence, musical appreciation, and even cognitive development -READ A NEW STUDY HERE

To that end I’ve designed my own instruction book as I found existing ones not challenging enough, underestimating children's potential.

What I most love about teaching is to accompany students through their journey towards self-confidence and musical self-expression.

Instruction will enable them to excel at ABRSM and Trinity graded exams, SQA and GCSE (which I prepare for at Fettes College and Merchiston Castle School) exams, but also give opportunities to develop their musicality and prepare them for performance beyond what is offered in schools. I perform regularly at prestigious concert halls in Europe and beyond – from the Hindu November Festival in India to the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland to the Edinburgh Festival. I draw on my professional experience to expose students to both the classical repertoire as well as some of the most exciting new classical and intercultural music being composed today.
